Cloud fire. Magic can be in the air when the sun is on the horizon and below the clouds. The clouds burst into flames of red, yellow, orange…and in the most fantastical patterns, hues, intensities. The variations are endless, each transition across the terminator unique…I'll nap in the afternoon.
There is something about Kauai's Na Pali Coast. This sunset was intriguing with the cloudbank over the range, the scattered high clouds above, and the orange-red burst of color on the water north of the range. The tradewinds had dropped and the waters on Hanalei Bay were beginning to still - nightfall on Kauai's north shore.
I was up early to work my way to a spot on the water just south of Beaver Bay in order to get this image. I had scouted the location the evening before and the weather report forecast clouds over the lake for early morning. As long as you are patient, the combination of clouds, first light, and a large reflective surface is hard to beat.
